When I was in elementary school, I had a teacher that every Friday was dream day. It was the greatest. As a dreamer myself, I loved it. Every Friday we came in and we talked about what we wanted to be. No matter how outlandish a dream was, she embraced it. It could have been easy for her to say they weren’t realistic, but she did quite the opposite.
I want to be an astronaut… Oh wow, that would be incredible. I can see it now, you are up in a space shuttle, walking on the moon… She would take it over the top and made you feel like you really could do it. She was a dream enabler.
Wake up… WAKE UP. The dream is over. Corporations are folding like chairs. They are letting people go who have given half their lives to them without a hint of care. U are more important than ever. I mean U in the most selfish sense. If U are not thinking about U & only U than shame on U.
What are U going to do about it. The first thing U have to do is to get that product out that U have neglected so long. The one that has a variety of attributes that have gone unnoticed. This product has the greatest growth potential. That product is U.
Here is things you can do to become that U.
1. Its your time to stand up and stand out and be noticed. With the Internet, it is easier than ever to be what you want to be. You can be an expert in whatever you want to be. Whatever your specific passion, dream or niche in life can now be your pulpit to share to the world. So get back on that horse and continuously learn, discover and share what you know best. Those with similar interests will be drawn to you.
2. Determine what makes you special. Create your unique selling proposition and then spread it horizontally. Through all the Social Media tools, your friends, your network and your communities.
3. Create Attention & Awareness - Start a blog, guest write articles, podcasts, do panel discussions or just share your thought leadership to elevate you as an expert. Distinguish yourself from everyone else. It is a noisy crowded world & you have to climb higher to be seen and heard. The hardest part of climbing the ladder of success is getting through the crowd at the bottom…
4. U are all you need. You are good enough. You will fight yourself all the time in self-talk. Be who you are and don’t try to be something or someone your not. U alone ARE good enough. The good news is U know U. You don’t have to guess because U look at yourself in the mirror everyday and spend all of your time thinking of yourself anyway. Be genuine, authentic and real.
5. Focus on your strengths. Many people try to repair their weaknesses to make themselves stronger. I disagree; focus on your strengths and what makes you great. Put all your time & energy in that. It is what makes you confident and easier to motivate yourself because you are already good at those. There is a book called Strength Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath at Gallup that will help with this.
So get out there and become the U that U always wanted to be. The only person that is standing in your way is U.
